A classic style of baby crib will start to disappear under new consumer protection bills signed by Gov. David Paterson. One new law bans the generations-old design of drop-side cribs. It was sponsored by state Sen. Charles Fuschillo, who says there have been several deaths.

Drop-side cribs will soon be banned in New York state, after Governor David Paterson signed a bill yesterday that bans the sale, import, manufacture and distribution of those cribs throughout the state. The law takes effect in October. The cribs have been linked to multiple child deaths and injuries, and more than nine million have been recalled nationwide.
